Malaysian golfer Alyaa Abdulghany teed off with the niece of Tiger Woods, Cheyenne, in her LPGA Tour debut.

She tied for 119th in a field of 133 at the Cambia Portland Classic after posting rounds of 78-80. Alyaa finished with 14-over-par 158 and did not make the cut.

The 22-year-old was also drawn in the same flight as 2014 Volvik Racv Ladies Masters champion Son Yujeong of South Korea.

Although Alyaa did not go far in her professional debut, she felt she learned a lot at Portland.

"Cheyenne is a wonderful person and a good player. She's very kind and is a pleasure to play with," said Alyaa.

"The one most important thing I learned this week was how important course management is, with or without your best game."

Before turning professional last month, Alyaa had started a fundraising initiative to help her get started on the LPGA Tour.

"The professional life is not as glamorous as many people think. The reason why I started a fundraising website was for people to realise that the travel, caddies and entry fees are expensive, and professional golfers need help starting out," she said.

So far, through her Go-Fund-Me initiative, Alyaa has raised US$6,370 (RM26,572), of which RM8,343 was from her friends.

The California-based golfer is currently playing on mini-tours such as the Women's All Pro Tour and the Cactus Tour, while placing her main focus on LPGA Tour's qualifying school.

Alyaa will play in Stage 2 of LPGA Tour's Q-School on Oct 18-24 at the Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Florida.
