As a typhoon blows towards Tokyo today, Kelly Tan hopes Mother Nature will "hang on" to allow the Olympic women's golf competition to finish.

The Malaysian fired a one-over 72, her best so far at the Kasumigaseki Country Club, in the third round for a five-over- 218.

Kelly, 28, who is joint 48th with Switzerlamd's Kim Metraux and Spain's Azahara Munoz, hopes to make the most of the final round today.

"It's frustrating... I shot a one-over today, which is not a bad score but I know I could have done so much better," said Kelly yesterday.

"I hit the ball much better, gave myself some good chances from gettable holes but not quite clicking."

Kelly, who plays on the LPGA Tour, added: "I looked at the weather this morning, it looked spotty for tomorrow (today) which will give us a chance to play.

"So, hopefully Mother Nature hangs on for one more day because I'd like to shoot under-par. It would be a nice way to end the Olympics."

An Olympic committee advisory reads: "The forecast for tomorrow has shown slight improvement with the tropical system moving further east."

If the final round is disrupted, there is an option to shift it to tomorrow, the day of the closing ceremony.

In the event competitors are unable to complete the 71 holes, the women's Olympic golf competition will revert to a 54-hole event.

American World No 1 Nelly Korda fired a two-under 69 on day three for a 15-under 198.
