KUALA LUMPUR: Though both are in the same precinct in Putrajaya and separated by only a six-to-10 minute drive, the FA of Malaysia's (FAM) new headquarters and the National Training Centre (NTC) are two completely different entities.

This was explained by FAM president Datuk Hamidin Amin today.

Regarding the speculation on the costs of the NTC, Hamidin pointed out that while FAM's headquarters will be constructed on its privately-owned six-acre land, the NTC will occupy a plot, leased for 30 years, from Putrajaya Corporation at a nominal fee of RM1 million.

"This leasing arrangement has been in place since the tenure of the three preceding sports ministers. However, navigating through bureaucratic hurdles has been a challenge," Hamidin said.

Expressing his frustration over the

challenges in funding, Hamidin recounted FAM's discussions with Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh and the various stakeholders, including Fifa president Gianni Infantino.

He revealed that Fifa has approved US$5.2 million (approximately RM21 million) for infrastructure development in Malaysia, with phase one earmarked for three artificial fields equipped with floodlights, landscaping, and drainage.

"Phase two, with an allocation of RM45 million, will include the construction of facilities such as a gymnasium, physiotherapy rooms, jacuzzi, sauna, and more," Hamidin added.

He anticipates a maximum completion timeframe of three years, with a target of one to two years.

In addition to these developments, Hamidin also outlined plans for their Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya.

While the current office will remain unchanged, several floors will be allocated to the Malaysian Football League (MFL), with space reserved for the Malay, Chinese, and Indian football associations, as well as the Football Coaches Association of Malaysia.

As FAM steers toward modernization and expansion, Hamidin reiterated the importance of maintaining clarity between Wisma FAM and the NTC, ensuring that each project receives the necessary attention and resources.
