SUBANG JAYA: National football player Faisal Halim is unperturbed by calls for a change in leadership at the FA of Malaysia (FAM).

The Harimau Malaya star said the squad were more focused on their campaign in the 2026 World Cup/2027 Asian Cup qualifiers rather than criticism hurled at FAM.

Under fire FAM president Datuk Hamidin Amin earlier this week said he welcomed being challenged for the top spot. The national body will hold its elections next year.

"Nowadays, when we lose, everyone gets blamed, but as players, this is not our concern. Our job is to play for the country," said Faisal after the launch of his FH7 official merchandise here today.

"When we are given the chance to play, we play.

"There is not much I can say as this is a higher-level issue.

"What I can say is that national coach Kim Pan Gon and Hamidin have done their jobs well."

The national squad have suffered a recent slump in form after enjoying a strong season last year.

Both fans and critics have called for a change in leadership to see Malaysian football improve.

This includes former FAM deputy president Khairy Jamaluddin, who last week suggested that the national body undergo a transition in leadership to allow the sport to further progress in the next decade.

Khairy downplayed any interest in contesting for the FAM president position, instead suggested that it should go to someone with a corporate background.
