KUALA LUMPUR: Brendan Gan, a devoted family man, has chosen KL City as his destination ahead of the M-League season.

The national midfielder cited Kuala Lumpur as the ideal place for his wife and two children, signing a one-year contract with the City Boys.

"It's always a difficult decision. I can't pinpoint the exact moment I made my choice, but I received interest from various areas both in Malaysia and abroad.

"After speaking with KL City, they presented a vision for the club's future. With an outstanding roster of players who have performed remarkably in recent years, I didn't have concerns about the playing side of things.

"My priority was ensuring my family's well-being, and I believe KL is the right place for us," said Brendan during his first training session with KL City at KLFA Stadium on Monday.

Despite KL City being one of two teams under review by the First Instance Body (FIB) due to outstanding salaries, the Australian-Malaysian remains unfazed.

He expressed confidence in his discussions with KL City CEO Stanley Bernard.

"These issues are common in most clubs and have persisted for a while. With the commitment of the players and the recent involvement of the Communications Minister, Fahmi Fadzil, in driving the team forward, I am confident they will give their all on the field.

"Stanley has assured me that my peace of mind and my family's well-being will be prioritised," Brendan added.

The 36-year-old revealed he had been on a social media detox and recently expressed gratitude for his four seasons at Selangor.

"I was looking forward to contributing to Selangor in 2024 (in the M-League and the AFC Champions League 2).

"However, football is unpredictable, with its highs and lows. I've come to terms with these emotions long ago.

"After three months of reflection, I believe the best opportunity for me right now is to join KL City. I hope to contribute to their success," said Brendan.

Since 2021, KL City have reached three finals, winning the Malaysia Cup in 2021 and finishing runners-up in the 2022 AFC Cup. In 2023, they reached the FA Cup final.
