KUALA LUMPUR: FAM president Datuk Hamidin Amin is unhappy with the claims made in a poison pen letter alleging that he earns a monthly salary of RM90,000.

The letter, which also accuses FAM of corruption and abuse of power, was circulated to the media and various organisations on Sunday, a day before the congress meeting.

The revelation has caused a stir within the national body, particularly regarding the rumoured monthly salary of RM90,000 for Hamidin.

During a press conference on Monday, an irate Hamidin said his salary is a personal matter.

Hamidin, who assumed the presidency in 2018, clarified that, as a full-time president, he receives various benefits.

"Even this (the media) wants to know... I can't (disclose the amount). It's a personal matter within FAM. This is going too far," said Hamidin.

Hamidin also shed light on the circumstances leading to his appointment as full-time president in 2018, as per the request of the Regent of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, who was the president at the time.

"Tunku Ismail expressed his intention to resign as FAM president in 2018 due to the opinion that a member of the royal family should no longer be involved.

"He desired an individual capable of running FAM full-time. Countries like South Korea, Thailand, Mongolia, Guam, Japan, and Vietnam also have full-time presidents.

"Furthermore, AFC president Sheikh Salman Ibrahim Al Khalifa and FIFA president Gianni Infantino also hold full-time positions and receive various benefits.

"Tunku Ismail proposed my name for the position, along with several benefits, and after deliberation, I accepted before being announced as the new head of FAM.

"I presented this proposal to the congress, and they agreed to support me," he added
