KUALA LUMPUR: Football fans planning to watch the Merdeka Football Festival 2023 finals between Malaysia and Tajikistan at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium tomorrow have been cautioned to observe all the rules and regulations throughout the match.

Cheras police chief Assistant Commissioner Zam Halim Jamaluddin said police expect about 45,000 supporters to turn up at the finals which starts at 9pm and reminded supporters to follow the organisers' instructions at all times.

He said all stadium entrances will open at 6.00pm.

"In order to ensure public safety and order, police from various units and departments will be placed on duty in and around the stadium.

"Fans and supporters entering the stadium will be subjected to a bag and body search before being allowed into the stadium," he said, adding that any prohibited items found during checks would also be confiscated on sight.

Among the prohibited items not allowed to be brought into the stadium, are firecrackers/fireworks/flares, helmet, laser pen, weapons such as machetes and other dangerous weapons, alcoholic beverage, power banks, vape and flags of other countries not related to the match.

The Malaysian football team will be playing against Tajikistan team tomorrow at 9pm.

Zam Halim also advised the fans to use the public transport to the stadium to avoid traffic congestion.

"If you are still going to use your own transport then make sure you park only at the designated parkings.

"Any vehicles parked along the road or undesignated parking, will be issued summonses and risk being towed away," he said, adding that fans should also adhere to instructions from officers on duty while they are there for the match.

Meanwhile, for the public and residents staying around the stadium area, Zam Halim advised them to stay away from the roads surrounding the stadium to avoid getting stuck in traffic jams.
