KUALA LUMPUR: Shuttler Lee Zii Jia has withdrawn from his opening round match at the Singapore Open due to injury.
Zii Jia was scheduled to play Indonesia's Anthony Ginting, seeded seventh, in the first round at the Singapore Indoor Stadium today.
Zii Jia's team (Teamlzj) issued a statement on social media today, confirming that he has conceded a walkover due to injuries sustained during recent tournaments.
"It is a difficult decision having to concede a walkover at the Singapore Open," his team statement said.
"But after medical assessment in Singapore, Zii Jia is advised not to participate due to hamstring injuries sustained during the Thailand Open and Malaysian Masters.
"(The) focus for Zii Jia's programme now will shift towards rehabilitation."
Zii Jia has shown strong form this month, winning the Thailand Open 10 days ago and reaching the final at the Malaysia Masters on Sunday, where he lost to Viktor Axelsen.
He had suffered from cramping during his quarterfinal match against Anders Antonsen at the Malaysia Masters though was able to soldier on until the final.
The match against Anthony would have been his 11th in 14 days.
