KUALA LUMPUR: Men's professional badminton doubles pair Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi were forced to withdraw from the India Open after the latter faced visa issues upon arrival.

In the first of two posts on Instagram today, Ee Yi admitted that it was his fault as he had applied for an e-visa using his old passport.

"It was my own mistake, I had applied for the e-visa using my old passport," said Ee Yi.

"Now I can't enter India, they (immigration officials) said they will send me home.

"I am now trying to apply for an emergency visa. If it is not successful, then (we) have to withdraw from the India Open."

Ee Yi updated his fans in a second post showing him already onboard a flight back to Malaysia.

"First of all, thank you to the Malaysian Embassy for helping me as well as to everyone who had help me and were worried about me," he said.

"Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do. They decided to send me home and now, I am already on the flight.

"Sorry guys, that was my mistake and in the end, I had to withdraw from the India Open."

Ee Yi-Yew Sin reached the quarter-finals of the Petronas Malaysia Open in Bukit Jalil last week.
