KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed today dismissed reports of him being fielded as a candidate in the 15th General Election (GE15).

Mustapa, better known as Tok Pa, maintained that he has retired from politics.

"I with to state that I've resigned from all positions in Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and also a member, as of Sept 30, 2023.

"I'm also reiterating the statement I made on Nov 2, 2022, in that I have effectively retired from politics after deciding not to contest in GE15," he said in a statement.

Mustapa's was responding to an FMT report yesterday which quoted Kelantan Bersatu chairman Datuk Kamaruddin Mohd Nor as saying that they were considering Mustapa as a candidate for the potential by-elections in Jeli and Gua Musang.

Kamaruddin however had said that the decision to field the two senior politicians will have to be agreed upon by the top Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional (PN) leadership.

PN is gearing up for possible by-elections in six seats after Bersatu had, on June 20, submitted a notice stating that six of its former elected representatives had ceased to become party members.

The six are Bukit Gantang MP Datuk Syed Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal, Jeli MP Zahari Kechik, Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid, Tanjong Karang MP Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi and Labuan MP Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman as well as Gua Musang's Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, who was also Nenggiri assemblyman.
