KUALA LUMPUR: Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has expressed confidence in the ongoing by-election campaign for the Kuala Kubu Baharu seat, noting a lack of momentum and fresh ideas from the opposition.

"Alhamdulillah, from our observations, the election campaign is proceeding smoothly. However, it's evident that our opponents, the opposition, seem to have run out of steam and ideas," he said.

He highlighted the minimal presence of leaders from Pas engaging in grassroots campaigning, with only one exception being the Kedah Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.

"From what I've gathered, their efforts haven't been particularly noteworthy. Perhaps, one might speculate that they've been stuck in a rut for too long, failing to adapt to the demands of governance," said Fahmi who is also the spokesperson for the unity government.

The PKR information chief also emphasised its commitment to vigorous campaigning, stressing the legacy left by the late Lee Kee Hiong, who served three terms and contributed significantly to the area's development.

"We're not taking this lightly. Our supporters need to understand that we're dedicated to continuing the progress initiated by Lee," he said.

He emphasised that supporting the unity government's candidate translated to endorsing further development and advancement for the constituency.

"This is the message we aim to convey to voters. Choosing the unity government's candidate means choosing progress," Fahmi said.

The upcoming by-election on May 11 will witness a four-cornered fight for the Kuala Kubu Baharu state seat.
