KUALA LUMPUR: The government is open to the possibility of 10 more Bersatu members of parliament (MP) alleged to be lending their support to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Unity government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil said this is as the government is focused on the unity and development of the nation.

"It is not impossible (for 10 more Bersatu MPs to lend support to the prime minister). I take the position and open stance that His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has taken.

"The decree from the beginning for us was to be together in a unity government from the start and that the prime minister has often stated his willingness to cooperate from that time until today.

"So what was mentioned by the Bukit Gantang MP, for me, is not impossible," he said.

Fahmi who is also the Communications Minister said the support from the additional Bersatu MPs was perhaps due to the unfulfilled promises that they were given.

"Because on their part, maybe they have waited too long (on undelivered promises). Perhaps it was the promises that cannot be realised.

"So, we wait. In any case, the government remains open because our focus is on uniting the people, lowering the political temperature and focus on the development of the country," he told reporters after handing out Chinese New Year donations to recipients at the Taman Seri Sentosa morning market, here.

On Friday, Bukit Gantang MP Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz alleged that around 10 more Bersatu Members of Parliament are expected to lend their support to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The MPs are expected to give their support to the PM ahead of the parliamentary session scheduled for Feb 26.

Syed Abu Hussin claims that the five are from the northern states, including Kedah, Penang, and Perak; three from the East Coast, namely Kelantan, Terengganu, and Pahang; and two from the central region, namely Selangor and Melaka.

He said these MPs made the decision due to their profound disappointment with the party, feeling unappreciated, neglected and they believe that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) leadership is unwilling to engage with Anwar's unity government for assistance.

So far, six Bersatu MPs have declared their support for Anwar: Syed Abu Hussin, Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), and the latest addition, Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanafi (Tanjong Karang).
