SHAH ALAM: Bersatu leaders have expressed their dissatisfaction soon after its president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, announced that he would not be defending his post.

Party secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin said the announcement made by Muhyiddin was only a suggestion and had not been finalised by the party's top leadership.

"I would like to inform you that Muhyiddin's speech should not be questioned because we (the top leadership) have not decided if we want to accept the decision.

"That was just a suggestion (put forth by Muhyiddin) and I do not want this to be a big issue.

"He only announced that he won't defend his position and we are not proposing anyone to become the president," he told a press conference after Bersatu's presidential policy speech at its assembly, today.

Meanwhile, Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal said he would also urge for a motion to be filed to ensure Muhyiddin remains as the president.

"I will also speak about the motion during my winding-up speech tomorrow."

Earlier, Muhyiddin announced that he will not defend his position in the upcoming party elections, which is scheduled to be held next year.

During the Bersatu president's policy speech today at its annual general assembly (AGM), Muhyiddin said that the time for him to let go of the position has come.

At a press conference later, Muhyiddin said he was also determined to not defend his post during the party election, next year.
