KUALA LUMPUR: Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani has been tasked with organising the Bumiputera Economy Pre-congress Colloquium.

Umno secretary general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said Johari, as the party's Economic Development, Investment, and Finance Council chairman, will mobilise party leaders for the programme.

He said all the findings from feedback and brainstorming sessions obtained through the colloquium will be presented at the Bumiputera Economic Congress.

"The Bumiputera Economic Congress was initiated by Umno back in 1965 to mobilise Malay-Bumiputera agenda resulting in the establishment of institutions such as Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara), UDA Holdings Bhd (UDA), Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) and others.

"Facing the challenges of the times for the next 30 years, surely the Bumiputera agenda needs to be given a new face and spirit with various strategic and effective plans to further empower the community's economy as enshrined in the Federal Constitution," he said in a Press conference today.

The Bumiputera Economic Congress, expected to be held in January next year, is set to be chaired by party president and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Meanwhile, Umno has relaunched the Tabung Muafakat Palestine to be channeled to the war victims in Gaza.

Asyraf Wajdi said the fund collection will be managed by Umno treasurer Datuk Seri Dr Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

"Umno fully supports initiative by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to mobilise humanitarian funds to assist the Palestinians.

"Initial allocation of RM10 million from the Malaysia government and a target of RM100 million fund collection will be supported by Umno," he added.
