KUALA LUMPUR: The Bumiputera Economic Congress Colloquium scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed to make way for an Umno Supreme Council meeting.

In a statement, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the meeting scheduled at 11am tomorrow is to discuss the announcement made by the Pardons Board regarding jailed former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

He however did not specify the date that they would hold the colloquium.

"Umno has made the decision to postpone the Bumiputera Economic Congress Colloquium that is scheduled tomorrow and chaired by Umno vice president Datuk Seri Johari Ghani which was supposed to be attended by 2,000 Umno leaders from 191 branches nationwide.

"At the same time, a special Umno Supreme Council meeting will be held at 11am tomorrow to discuss latest political developments especially those related to Najib's sentence reduction," he said.

Earlier today, the Pardon's Board issued a statement that Najib's prison sentence would be halved from 12 to six years and his fine would be reduced from RM210 million to RM50 million.

Najib is currently serving a 12-year jail term since August last year after he was found guilty of one count of abuse of power with regard to Retirement Fund Inc's (KWAP) RM4 billion loan to SRC International Sdn Bhd, as well as three counts each of criminal breach of trust and abuse of power involving RM42 million of SRC funds.

SRC is a former subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Several Umno leaders has expressed their dissatisfaction that Najib didn't receive a full pardon, including Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Puad Zarkashi and Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Salleh
