BENTONG: Pas acknowledged that it has been challenging to entice Pelangai constituents to attend ceramah held during the campaign period for the forthcoming by-election.

Its secretary-general, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said that this was due to geographical factors and the remote location of Pelangai.

However, he finds the reception of Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Kasim Samat to be quite encouraging, despite the difficulty they have had in attracting locals and community members to the series of ceramah they have organised in the Pelangai constituency.

"From what we can tell, Alhamdulillah, the reception of our candidate and our efforts to win the Pelangai state seat has been quite positive in terms of responses, participation, and even the walkabouts and ceramah programmes that we have conducted.

"There was quite a crowd at Felda Chemomoi last night, which was attended by PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and a few other top party leaders," he said when met during the "Ceramah Perdana Pelangai Bersedia Berubah" programme at Dataran Purnama here last night.

With only two more days before polling, Takiyuddin said that a large-scale ceramah would be organised. It will see the attendance of prominent political figures, including former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

"Dr Mahathir is our 'unofficial adviser' for the four states that are governed by PN, namely Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.

"We have a Grand Finale programme tomorrow night (Oct 6) and we expect more people to attend. The event will be graced by Dr Mahathir, Muhyiddin, Kedah Menter Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor; Gerakan president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai and several other leaders," he said.

Takiyuddin, when asked about PN's prospects of capturing the state seat from BN, said that both parties are evenly matched.

"We feel that we are on par with BN especially. But we do have a final hurdle (programme) that we feel can give our candidate an edge InsyaAllah," he said.
