GEORGE TOWN: Penang Perikatan Nasional (PN) will give its full support to Pas to field a candidate in the upcoming Sungai Bakap by-election.
This was the understanding reached by the Penang PN leadership during a meeting held last Sunday (June 9).
"The state PN liaison committee also agreed to appoint a representative from Pas as the Sungai Bakap by-election director and has instructed all the coalition members in the parliamentary constituencies to cooperate fully.
"It is our hope to regain the mandate of the voters in Sungai Bakap to continue to oversee the government through this by-election and strive to fight to improve basic facilities in Sungai Bakap," the state PN said in a statement.
The candidate will be determined by the PN national leadership.
The Election Commission has fixed July 6 for the Sungai Bakap by-election.
The by-election was held following the death of its assemblyman, Pas' Nor Zamri Latiff on May 24.
The PN coalition is set to officially announce its candidate for the upcoming Sungai Bakap by-election on June 16.
