BESUT: Umno Youth does not rule out the possibility of a swing in voter support for parties contesting in the 15th Terengganu Election on Aug 12.

Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said although the results in the 15th General Election (GE15) for Terengganu including the Besut parliamentary seat were not in favour of Barisan Nasional, the situation might be reversed in the state election.

"The party machinery needs to work hard during this campaigning period... any situation like a 'swing' (in voter support) can happen. I believe that people who voted in GE15 will not necessarily vote for the same party in this state election.

"In this election, the voters will evaluate the candidate and see whether he is close to the people or not, whether the candidate can do the job or otherwise. That factor will determine the 'swing' for the voters to switch to BN," he said when met at the nomination centre in Gong Kemuntong, here.

Akmal was seen accompanying the BN candidate for the Jertih state seat, Mohd Rozaini Mohd Rasli.

Also present were former Besut member of parliament Tan Sri Idris Jusoh, Terengganu Umno Youth chief Tengku Haphiz Tengku Putera and Bera Umno Youth chief Nashriq Ismail Sabri.

Akmal said they hoped that all elected representatives would work and serve the people fully.

"We hope all BN candidates will win in Terengganu and the state administration will change from the Pas government to BN," he said.

A total of 13 Umno Youth leaders were selected as candidates for BN in the six state elections.

Two of them are Ahmad Zaki Shah Shah Headan in Teluk Bahang, Penang and Zuhairi Zakaria (Gual, Perak).

In Kelantan, there are Mohd Rosdi Razali (Kelaboran); Mohamad Husain (Salor); Muhamad Yamin Anuar Mat Zin (Kuala Balah); Mohd Aliff Nasrol Mat Nasin (Gaal) and Muhammad Fakhran Che Jusoh (Pulau Chondong).

In Terengganu, the Umno Youth candidates are Rozaini, Mohd Khairi Afiq Mohd Yusof (Kemasik) and Ahmad Abdullah Abd Wahab (Paka).

Meanwhile in Selangor, they are Datuk Mohd Imran Tamrin (Sungai Panjang) and Mohd Al-Hafizi Abu Bakar (Sijangkang), while Suhaizan Bizar is being fielded in Gemenceh, Negri Sembilan.
