KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor Perikatan Nasional (PN) today said more MIC members have quit the party and joined the coalition to defend the fate of the Indian community in the country.

In a Facebook post, Selangor PN also said that Pakatan Harapan (PH) is no longer relevant to bring the voice of the Indian community because it gives more promises than actions.

"Now, more and more MIC members, especially in Selangor, disagree with the party's leadership and choose to leave the party and join PN to defend the fate of the Indian community.

"PH, on the other hand, is seen as no longer relevant to bring the voice of the Indian community, because it gives more promises than action," read the statement.

PN Selangor said traditionally, the community used to be a vote bank for Barisan Nasional (BN) when MIC was seen as upholding the rights and issues of the Indian community.

"However, after the fall of BN in Selangor in 2008, MIC has increasingly lost votes from the Indian community, with the party continuing to struggle to win the hearts of the voters again.

"This happened as a result of the loyalty of the Indian voters being abused, causing them to switch their support."

PN Selangor added the coalition was serious about empowering the Indian community if it is given the mandate to govern Selangor in the future.

"The people need a better future, and the solution lies with PN."

On June 27, former MIC vice-president Datuk C. Sivaraj quit the party with immediate effect.

The former BN member of parliament said his decision would allow him to focus on his responsibilities as a Dewan Negara senator and as a leader for the Indian community without any restriction from any party, including the MIC leadership.
