JOHOR BARU: Johor Umno's decision for the top two party posts to remain uncontested was never discussed in meetings chaired by state chairman Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad.

His deputy Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed, who revealed this, slammed the decision as undemocratic.

"But why is he speaking up now?" he said of Hasni's objection to the decision after the party's general assembly last week. "All this time he (Hasni) just kept his mouth shut. He didn't make any statement regarding the decision for the party president and deputy president posts to be uncontested,"

"However, after the Umno General Assembly (PAU) he speaks out," he said on Facebook today.

He also took issue with Johor representative Datuk Pandak Ahmad saying that Johor Umno wants the positions to be contested, while he debated president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's policy speech.

Nur Jazlan however, affirmed that as second-in-command, he was not called to discuss the state's stand on the matter.

"Why was the decision made without discussing or informing the Johor Umno leaders? Isn't this undemocratic?" he said on Facebook today.

Johor Umno's Pandak Ahmad had reportedly felt strange that the no-contest motion for the posts were accepted and debated at the last minute.

The Iskandar Puteri division deputy chief said "anything goes now in the party,"

On Sunday, Hasni who is also former Johor Menteri Besar insisted that it was not right to prevent any member of the party from running for the positions, even though such a decision was made in the general assembly.

Nur Jazlan, who is also Pulai division chief also dismissed arguments that if the positions were not contested, it will be disparaging to the party image.
