ISKANDAR PUTERI: Simultaneous raids on an aluminium manufacturing factory and a bakery here saw 52 undocumented foreigners of various nationalities detained yesterday.
Also apprehended in the Johor Immigration Department raids were the aluminium manufacturing factory manager — a 43-year-old local woman — and the bakery manager — a 36-year-old local man.
Acting state Immigration director Mohd Faizal Shamsudin said the raids against migrants working in the state, codenamed Op Mahir, were conducted following public tip-offs.
He said some 76 individuals were screened in both raids, and 52 undocumented foreigners were detained, for violating numerous regulations under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
In the 11am raid at the aluminium manufacturing factory, 26 men were detained along with the factory manager.
The detainees, aged between 20 and 46, were from Pakistan, Bangladesh, China and Myanmar.
The raid at the bakery saw another 26 foreigners, including nine women, aged between 21 and 42, picked up after they failed to produce their work permits.
Faizal said the foreigners had violated their social visit visas and overstayed, while some were believed to have entered the country illegally.
He added that the detainees will be held at the Setia Tropika Immigration Detention Depot, prior to deportation.
