KUALA LUMPUR: Fifteen undocumented foreign workers were arrested in a raid conducted at a renowned sports school in Bukit Jalil here yesterday.
Federal Territory Immigration Department director Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff said all detainees were unlawfully employed as cleaners at the premises.
"The enforcement team had issued two summonses to representatives of the sports school for further investigation.
"All five men and ten women, believed to be Indonesians, were allegedly hired illegally for cleaning duties at the premises," he said today.
He added that those arrested, aged between 25 and 45, were sent to the Bukit Jalil Immigration Detention Depot for further processing.
"The case is being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) (lack of valid documents) and Section 15(1)(c) (overstaying) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
"They could face a fine of up to RM10,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years, or both, and may be subject to a maximum of six strokes of caning if found guilty."p
He reminded the public that the department would not tolerate any party that harbours or employs undocumented foreign workers.
"Owners of premises, operators and especially employers, are sternly reminded that harbouring undocumented foreign workers is a serious offence, let alone hiring them."
