KUALA LUMPUR: The additional motion for the top two posts in Umno to be uncontested contains "imperfections" because it goes against the party constitution.

Johor Umno delegate Datuk Pandak Ahmad said the additional motion was not in accordance with Clause 30 of Umno's Constitution and Article 10 of its Conference Rule.

"It is strange that this additional motion was accepted and is being debated. Maybe Umno has become an 'asal boleh' party.

"Referring to Clause 30 and Article 1, the additional motion proposed yesterday is not perfect and should not be continued in this Umno General Assembly.

"It must be done according to the Umno's Constitution and Conference Rule. If you're not sure, please refer (to it)," he said while debating the president's policy speech today.

Yesterday, a delegate from Negri Sembilan proposed an additional motion to keep the top two party posts uncontested in the upcoming party election.

The additional motion was proposed by Rembau Umno division delegate, Mohd Shukri Shamsudin, during the debate on the party president's policy speech.

The additional motion was seconded by Marang Umno division chief Datuk Nik Dir Nik Wan Ku.

It, however, received mixed reactions from the delegates.

Meanwhile, Pandak also questioned certain Umno members' intention to table a no-contest motion using the excuse of party unity.

"If Umno wants unity and stability, why only limit this (no-contest motion) to the positions of president and deputy president?

"Why not all positions, be it at division or branch level also go uncontested? Only then the unity and stability of the party can be maintained," he said in a sarcastic tone.

Pandak said if party members wanted a no-contest rule, it should apply to other posts at the grassroots.

"Bring an additional motion for the positions at divisions and branches to go uncontested."

Pandak said the party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has expressed his willingness to be challenged for his post at the party elections, and members should accept this.

"The president shook hands with (former Umno Youth chief) Khairy Jamaluddin recently, and he is ready to fight.

"The president has a big heart. He has no problem to fight for the post and is confident of retaining his post.

"(And) the same goes with the deputy president."

On Thursday, Khairy shared on Instagram that Zahid has given his assurance that he is ready to "fight" in the party elections.

Khairy said he met Zahid, during which the latter said he was ready to defend his post as party president.

In the 2018 election, Zahid was elected as president with 93 votes, defeating his two challengers Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah and Khairy.
