KUALA LUMPUR: Umno leaders and delegates attending the party's general assembly here are shying away from commenting on Sabah political development.

Its vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said he will wait for the explanation from party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on the political situation in Sabah.

"Let us listen to the president (Zahid) first since we do not know what is the ramifications," he told reporters when met at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTC) here.

Khaled was asked to comment on the latest political developments in the state after Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin was dropped from the new Sabah Cabinet line-up.

Bung Moktar was replaced by Tanjung Keramat assemblyman Datuk Shahelmey Yahya, who is among the five Umno state lawmakers maintaining their support for Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor as the Sabah chief minister.

Shahelmey is now the deputy chief minister and works minister; two portfolios that were held by Bung Moktar.

"As of now, we only learned about a view (one side of the story) on what happened in Sabah.

"And it (the political mess in Sabah) all happened too fast.

"I, myself, would like to listen to what the president has to say," said Khaled.

Umno Supreme Council member Isham Jalil refused to comment when asked if the new Sabah cabinet line-up is a unity government or otherwise.

"I reserve my comments. I want to focus on this thing first (the special briefing by Zahid with some 3,000 party delegates)," he said.

Similar to Isham, former Selangor Umno liaison committee chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar kept mum when he asked on the political development which unfolded in Sabah.

"How am I supposed to know since it involved Sabah and I am in Selangor.

"I do not want to comment since I am the state liaison committee chairman for Selangor," he said.
