KUALA LUMPUR: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has confirmed that he will be heading to Kota Kinabalu today to address the purportedly tumultuous political situation in Sabah.

When asked about the ongoing situation, Zahid only said that his party would issue a statement on the matter in Kota Kinabalu tomorrow.

"I will fly immediately after this event, to Sabah. I will release a statement in Kota Kinabalu tomorrow," he said during a press conference after officiating MoodaFest, a youth event organised by the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry here, today.

Earlier, Sabah Umno expressed readiness to cooperate with Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) to defeat Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) in the 17th state election.

Previously, leaders from Warisan and Sabah Umno had individually expressed their willingness to form a collaboration to face the 17th state election, but there has been no official statement between the two parties.

Warisan president, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, reportedly said that it is not impossible as they have no issues collaborating with Umno for the sake of the people of Sabah.

Meanwhile, Sabah Umno chief, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, also acknowledged that there is no impediment to collaborating with Warisan, and so far, they have not done so formally.

If the collaboration materialises, both parties, who together form the unity government at the federal level, will stand against GRS and Pakatan Harapan (PH), which form the state government.
