HULU SELANGOR: Former Selangor Umno treasurer Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz has been assigned to strategise political activities outside of the Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) framework.

BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he assigned Tengku Zafrul to this "special task" and that he would personally monitor his performance.

"I know Zafrul resigned as treasurer (of Selangor Umno) and it was his choice.

"However, I discussed other tasks with him, and I assigned him to strategise political activities outside of the Umno and BN framework."

Zahid said Tengku Zafrul is aware of the task he has been entrusted with.

"I believe he can do it," Zahid said in a speech at the Hulu Selangor Umno's Hari Raya open house.

Present were BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, and Tengku Zafrul, who is also an Umno Supreme Council member.

Later, when asked to elaborate on Tengku Zafrul's new role, Zahid said more details would be provided in due time.

Earlier this month, Tengku Zafrul resigned as Selangor Umno treasurer, citing differences with the state chapter's leadership.
