PERMATANG PAUH: Nurul Izzah Anwar, who failed to defend her Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat, vowed to continue the struggle to reform Malaysia for the better.

Speaking to the New Straits Times, Nurul Izzah thanked all who had supported and believed in her.

"The opportunity to represent Permatang Pauh is one of the greatest honours of my life.

"And I will do my best to continue the struggle to reform Malaysia for the better," she said.

Nurul Izzah's defeat was one of the biggest casualties in the state, more so as Permatang Pauh has always been Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his family's fortress since 1982.

The Permatang Pauh seat saw a four-cornered fight among Nurul Izzah, Muhammad Fawwaz Mat Jan (Perikatan Nasional-PAS), Datuk Mohd Zaidi Mohd Said (BN-UMNO) and Mohd Nasir Othman (Pejuang-Putra).

Fawwaz won with a 5,272 vote-majority when he polled 37,638 votes

Nurul Izzah only managed to poll 33,366 votes.

Zaidi obtained 16,971 votes while Nasir 473 votes.
