BANGI: Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) is set to contest 121 parliamentary seats in its bid to wrest Putrajaya and form the government in the 15th General Election (GE15).

Today, 113 of the candidates were announced, and GTA chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said more candidates would be announced in the coming days.

"We are confident in our candidates that we have been carefully selected.

"We believe the people recognise GTA, a party that will make the country better by having candidates free from any criminal charge or even accusation," Dr Mahathir said after the announcement at the Bangi Convention Centre here today.

Dr Mahathir is confirmed to defend his Langkawi seat.

Among other familiar faces include Pejuang president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, who will defend the Jerlun parliamentary seat.

He previously contested and won the seat under Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.

GTA was also banking on celebrities to woo voters.

Actor and director Ahmad Idham Ahmad Nadzri and actor-cum-road safety activist Azlan Sani Zawawi will contest the Port Dickson and Tanjung Karang seats, respectively.

Newcomers include National Indian Muslim Alliance Party president Datuk Mohamed Mosin Abdul Razak, who will contest the Merbok seat, and the party's secretary-general Dr Amir Hamzah Abdul Rajak, who will contest Tanjong Malim.
