MASJID TANAH: Incumbent Datuk Wira Mas Ermieyati Samsudin expects Barisan Nasional to name a heavyweight to contest the Masjid Tanah seat.

She said based on information she received, BN plans to name a high ranking civil servant to face her in the 15th General Election.

"We expect a heavyweight from BN and I must work hard to explain to the people my mission and vision if chosen as the member of Parliament.

"It is not easy to face such a candidate but more importantly, I will continue to work hard to ensure Masjid Tanah remains with Perikatan Nasional," said Mas Ermieyanti after presenting the prizes to the winners of a sepaktakraw tournament in Kampung Nelayan Kuala Linggi here.

She said she will use the open campaigning that is allowed by the Election Commission and the Health Ministry to meet as many people as possible.

She added that meeting the people would provide her with the opportunity to explain to them what she had done to develop Masjid Tanah and her plans to improve the development for the future.

"There are things that they had heard from other people but when we explain them, then they would understand," said Mas Ermieyanti.

On Saturday, PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced Mas Ermieyanti as PN's first candidate for GE15 during the Jelajah Prihatin PN in Kampung Paya Lebar here.

He was reported as saying that Mas Ermiyanti was chosen based on her track record as the Masjid Tanah MP since 2013.

BN is reported as planning to name Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali as its candidate for Masjid Tanah.

In the last general election, Mas Ermieyati, who was then contesting under the BN banner, won the seat with a majority of 8,159 votes, defeating Datuk Dr Sabirin Ja'afar of PKR and Nasir Othman of Pas. She then left Umno and joined Bersatu.
