KUALA LUMPUR: Umno members who fail to toe the line must face the consequences of either being slapped with disciplinary action or get sacked from the party.

Umno supreme council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi pointed out that adhering to the decisions made by the party was common practice in any political organisation.

Party members, he said, must use the right channels and platforms if they wish to voice their criticism towards the party.

"There will be no problem if everyone obeys the party.

"There were occasions where I, too, criticised the president (Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi), there was no problem but it must be true (and not baseless allegations).

"If something has been decided by the party, then we must adhere to it.

"We can criticise anyone. I, too, had criticised the prime minister," he told reporters after attending the Umno supreme council meeting here.

It is learnt that the meeting which started at 8pm was held to discuss matters related to the 15th general election and disciplinary issues.

Meanwhile, Puad in a posting that was shared on his Facebook account revealed that former Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) information chief Isham Jalil was sworn in as the party's newest supreme council member.

The posting was accompanied by a picture of Isham being sworn in.

"Congratulations Isham Jalil," said Puad in the posting.

His appointment came about following the removal of Pasir Salak member of parliament Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman from the supreme council.
