SHAH ALAM: The DAP has kept its doors open to forge a collaboration with other political parties to form a government, said DAP national chairman Tan Kok Wai.

However, he said parties will need to comply with the conditions set if any political cooperation is to take place.

He added that the stipulation of the conditions was important as long as the party's principles and goals were not affected.

"In the era after the 14th General Election, it is no longer possible for any political party (to go at it) alone, to form a government.

"The basis of government formation in Malaysia now depends on a coalition framework with cooperation involving several parties.

"We are always open to working with any party, as long as the party's principles and goals are not affected through such cooperation.

"We only accept (cooperation with) parties with similar political ideologies, parties that hold values similar to ours and most importantly, we reject any form of cooperation with the corrupt, traitors, rogues and political frogs," he said, in his opening speech at the 17th DAP National Congress today.

The speech by the Cheras Member of Parliament was the last as the National DAP chairman.

The DAP veteran stressed that he would not announce his retirement from politics because he chose to continue serving the party and the people.

"Political retirement is not my choice right now, not yet. But I choose to continue serving the party and also Malaysians in different roles and capacities.

"The political situation today is very different. We are facing a political landscape that is very different from the era before GE14.

The party leaders to be elected have a big challenge that they have to bear in leading our party in this new political landscape," he said.
