KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah PKR leadership council has unanimously given its full support to Datuk Christina Liew to continue leading the state party ahead of the next general election.

Sabah PKR secretary Mustapha Sakmud said the decision for her to retain her post was made during a state party leadership council meeting today.

He said Liew's leadership was needed because of the news ideas in lifting the party's image, while also strengthening state party.

In moving forward, Mustapha said Liew, who is Tawau member of parliament, will be outlining various new approaches including a 2022 strategic plan.

It will be supported by activities in each branch together with all state leadership council leaders and party members based on the motto "Together We Make It Happen".

He said the meeting today was to restructure the state leadership in order to strengthen the party machinery ahead of the 15th General Election.

Meanwhile, Putatan MP Awang Husaini Sahari was appointed as state deputy chairman, while Inanam assemblyman Peto Galim, Datuk John O.T. Gani and Abdul Razak Jamil were appointed as state vice chairmen.

The changes today also saw Remysta Taylor appointed as organising secretary; Thonny Chee (deputy information chief) and Dikin Musa (disciplinary bureau chairman).

Other new members in the state leadership council are Alijus Sipil Ramlan Naim, Akbar Nusah and Fauziah Abdul Lahap.

Mustapha said the appointments in the state leadership council was based on clause 27.4 of the party's constitution via the recommendation of the political bureau with consultation of party branch heads who were present at the meeting.

He said the secretariat has distributed the notice of meeting to all branch heads and asked them to send a representative if necessary.

"However, the action of some to boycott the state leadership council meeting means that they do not want to negotiate.

"The state leadership council has approved these changes in leadership line-up with the consent of the majority of council's members who attended the meeting. They have the power to decide based on the party's constitution.

"The party president has also been informed of this change, especially involving the key leadership based on clause 27.5 of the same constitution," he said.

Mustapha urged those who are dissatisfied with the internal management of the state party and its leadership to use the right channels in voicing their protests and avoid using the media to when doing so.

The state leadership council also decided that the party leadership should be magnanimous by opening a room for discussion in finding solutions in the interest of the party, he said.

He said the state branch heads who had boycotted today's meeting were disrespecting the party president, who had consulted with all the branch heads at a previous meeting on Sept 8 last year.

"And (the president) advised for the state leadership council chairman to be retained until the next party election. Our main focus is to prepare for GE15 and strengthen the party's machinery at the branches." he said.
