SEMENYIH: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) should not take lightly the threat posed by the cooperation between Pas and Umno in the Semenyih by-election.

Its president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, said the cooperation between the two opposition parties during the Cameron Highlands by-election recently showed that the combination was fruitful.

However, he said he was optimistic that the Semenyih by-election, set for March 2, would be different from that of Cameron Highlands.

“I am not sure if it (the Umno-Pas cooperaton) is strong. They looked to have succeeded in Cameron Highlands. But in Semenyih, it is different (from Cameron Highlands). The situation is not the same.

“Nevertheless, we should not take things lightly. If they want to work together again, we will have a strategy to handle them,” he told reporters after a meeting with Hulu Langat PPBM committee members.

Earlier, Muhyiddin also met with the heads of villages in the Semenyih state constituency.

Asked to elaborate on the cooperation between Umno and Pas, Muhyiddin said he believed not all members of the two parties were agreeable to it.

On the input he received in his meetings with the Hulu Langat party committee members and village heads in Semenyih, he said voters were keen to see the problems in the constituency, such as floods and traffic congestion, solved.

They also wanted upgrades to Kajang Hospital and government clinics, he said.

Muhyiddin said whatever concerns were raised would be brought to the attention of the cabinet in its next meeting.
