SEMENYIH: The Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Semenyih by-election will be announced on Feb 14.
Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said he would announce the name of the candidate, who is to be from his party.
If not, PH and PPBM chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad would make the announcement.
“In general, PPBM and PH are ready to face the by-election. We will announce the candidate on Feb 14. If I am not there, Tun (Dr Mahathir) will announce. We will announce it about 4pm,” he said.
Muhyiddin was speaking to reporters after a meeting with the Hulu Langat PPBM committee and heads of villages in the Semenyih constituency.
Asked what criteria would be used to determine who would lead PH’s challenge in the by-election, Muhyiddin joked that the candidate has to be handsome and have a moustache.
This produced much laughter from newsmen and those who were around him.
“The candidate must be handsome, must have a moustache. But other than that, we have to look at academic qualifications, whether he or she is polite and other attributes which we think qualifies him or her as an elected representative.
“We have held many meetings... people want a local candidate. We will also take that factor into consideration,” he said.
