KOTA BHARU: Kelantan Pakatan Harapan (PH) views the cooperation between PAS and Umno which appears to be without a clear basis, as something that may end up becoming a pointless exercise.
Its chairman Datuk Husam Musa said PAS, in its previous political cooperations, had always placed certain conditions for the other party to adhere to.
Husam said he hoped in the context of PAS' current cooperation with Umno, the Islamist party does not end up becoming a victim, citing an old Malay tale of a buffalo that was eaten by a crocodile after it helped the crocodile that was pinned under a tree trunk.
"During the days of Semangat 46, PAS' condition to them is that they have to accept Islam as the religion, when they were in Pakatan Rakyat (PR), DAP had to accept that PAS could carry on with their policies.
"But in their cooperation with Umno, we have not heard any policy or foundation set by PAS as a condition for the cooperation.
"In my opinion, this kind of cooperation while it may bear instant fruit, in the end, PAS' struggles will be for naught," he told reporters when met after a dinner event with the Kelantan Media Club (Kemudi), here, last night.
The former PAS vice president said this in commenting on Barisan Nasional (BN) winning the Cameron Highlands by-election on Saturday.
Commenting further, the Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) vice president however admitted he was "happy" to see the cooperation between the two parties which was previously denied by certain quarters.
"I am actually happy because all this while I was accused of slander when I said there was a cooperation between PAS and Umno. I was also fired (from PAS) because I made such claims.
"But today, PAS and Umno's cooperation is an open secret and we see a video by a hardcore PAS person who was happy to vote for the scale (BN's logo). So what I have been talking about all this while is true and today it has become a reality," he said.
