GEORGE TOWN: PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has been told to expedite the appointment of Penang PKR chief to ensure the smooth running of the party in the state.

Deputy PKR Permatang Pauh division chief Dr Afif Bahardin said they were still awaiting the new appointment after former state chief Nurul Izzah Anwar, who is Permatang Pauh member of parliament, relinquished the post recently.

“I am told that among the divisions’ chief several names have been proposed to the president for the vacant post.

“It is necessary for the president to announce the new state chief as many issues in the state need the view of the leadership,” he told newsmen when met today.

Dr Afif expressed hope for the soon-to-be-appointed state PKR chief to be a local face and able to lead the party well.

He added that the candidate also needed to sustain the good performance record for the state PKR, just like what the previous leadership did.

“Only PKR Selangor and Penang won all the seats they contested in the 14th General Election.

“As such, it is our fervent hope that the new state chief will continue this excellent record,” he added.

Last month, Nurul Izzah sprang a surprise when she relinquished her post as the state PKR chief as well as the PKR vice-president.
