KUCHING: The e-voting process for the PKR Julau branch on Saturday is tainted with fraud and vote-buying elements, state PKR Information chief Vernon Kerdit claimed.

Vernon, who is also PKR Betong branch chief, said he have all the evidences saved in a USB thumb drive to support his claims.

Speaking to reporters after handing over the evidence at the state Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters here today, Vernon said the evidences detailed information attempt by certain quarters to manipulate the election process of the party polls in Julau.

“We now have incontrovertible evidence that vote-buying occurred on Saturday Nov 10 in Julau, adding to the mountain of evidence already available that fraud and various criminality have taken place.

“In this tiny thumb drive is explosive and shocking evidence that blatant and unbridled corruption occurred rampantly in Julau.

“I am handing over the thumb drive to the MACC for the commission to launch its probe into the case,” he said.

Vernon declined to elaborate when he was asked to provide more information on his “shocking” evidence.

He, however, described the details of the evidence as “sickening” and that he is “disgusted” with the modus operandi employed by the culprits.

It was reported that the result for the PKR Julau branch was initially suspended after the party’s Central Election Committee’s System and Information Technology Unit detected 10 tablets used during the voting process infected by a malware.

PKR deputy president contender Rafizi Ramli cried foul and told a portal that the software would enable certain quarters to remotely manipulate decision over the election process in Julau.

Rafizi’s claimed irked outgoing PKR Women chief Zuraida Kamaruddin, who urged the committee to reveal the log files for the devices alleged compromised.

Acting on report lodged over the incident, police have arrested an information technology expert from Subang Jaya, Selangor at the Sibu International Airport here yesterday.

Police also seized several belonging including a tablet device and two smartphones from the suspect, 44, who is attached with the party headquarters in Petaling Jaya.

The party election for the Julau branch has been marred with allegations of cyberattacked and irregularities in its membership, which saw significant increase from 603 members to 13,000 members in a few days.
