JULAU: Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has rejected claims that PKR is afflicted with ‘denial syndrome’ over internal issues plaguing the party.

Dr Wan Azizah, who is PKR president, said all internal matters are noted by the party leadership so that it can be resolved.

“We do not have a denial syndrome in PKR. If there is anything (problems or issues), we will know (so that it can be discussed and resolved),” he said.

Dr Wan Azizah, who is also deputy prime minister, was speaking after attending a meet-the-people session at the Rumah Panjang Rengayan Anak Ngumbang in Nanga Ruyak, here on Tuesday.

Also present was Julau member of parliament, Larry Sng Wei Shien, who is also the Malaysian Pepper Board chairman, as well as Julau PKR branch chief and PKR central committee member.

The issue came to the fore after doubts arose following an inexplicably drastic rise in the Julau PKR membership figures, from 603 to 13,000 on June 27, all in the span of one day.

The incident triggered suspicion among Sarawak PKR leaders, who lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), suspecting abuse of power.

Dr Wan Azizah said the party leadership has already obtained an explanation from the MACC on the basis of the report.

“We have received an explanation from MACC on the matter, and the person (the Julau PKR leader detained by MACC previously) has already been released.

“We hope that the contest (PKR elections) will take place in a fair and healthy manner,” she said.

She said the Julau PKR election process will proceed as planned.

“We will adhere to the fixed schedule. We want to see a clean and fair fight,” she said.

Julau could end up being the deciding factor in the fight for the PKR deputy presidency between Rafizi Ramli or Datuk Seri Mohamad Azmin Ali.

Sng has since openly declared his support for Rafizi.
