KUALA LUMPUR : Umno has yet to receive the resignation letter from its Supreme Council member, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, said secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

“The party has yet to receive anything (resignation letter) official. I will verify the matter with him (Mustapa) first,” he said when contacted.

Mustapa, who is also Jeli member of parliament, is believed to be abroad, had earlier in a statement announced his departure after 40 years of serving the party.

Annuar, who is also Ketereh said he was shocked with the announcement, but refused to comment further.

“The party may issue a statement tomorrow,” he said.

Mustapa, who is former International Trade and Industry minister, had said was unconvinced that Umno’s rejuvenation process has begun.

He had said that the decision was made after much deliberation and that he believed that Umno’s direction and his political principles were no longer aligned.
