GEORGE TOWN: PKR welcomes Umno and Pas' openness in announcing their political cooperation for the Sungai Kandis and Seri Setia by-elections.

Its secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said such cooperation would result in having a powerful opposition against the Pakatan Harapan federal government.

“The openness shown is good because the people want to know the status of the relationship between the two parties.

“(As a matter of fact) we declare our cooperation with DAP, Bersatu (Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia), Amanah (Parti Amanah Negara) and Parti Warisan Sabah, just to make things clear to the people,” he said.

Saifuddin said the declaration would ensure people have clearer picture of the relationship between Umno and Pas.

“No more riddles... there's no need to be ashamed because the people need to know who they should choose.” he added.

Yesterday, Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated that the party was prepared to cooperate with Pas in the Seri Setia by-election, to show Umno's appreciation to the Islamic party for their support in the Sungai Kandis.

Meanwhile, on the Pakatan Harapan (PH) logo for the by-election, Saifuddin said that the party still has a few issues to settle before any announcement can be made.

“We already discussed this in the PH Presidential Council meeting recently and will sort out a few matters with the Election Commission before making any announcement.” said Saifuddin.
