KUALA LUMPUR: PKR vice-president, Nurul Izzah Anwar, is expected to announce whether to defend her post a few days before the deadline for the nomination of candidates for party elections to be held on Aug 5.

She remained coy about her candidacy, evading incessant queries by the media, saying that she had time to deliberate over the matter.

“Insya Allah, I will announce (the decision) a few days prior to the deadline.

“I still have time, (so) we will abide (by) aulawiyat (the principle),” she said in a Press conference here today.

When asked whether she was prepared to contest in the election, Nurul Izzah, who is also the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) committee chairman, asked for all quarters to remain patient.

“Who told you (media) about this?

“I will make an announcement when the time is right. There is still a time.

“Why (do you want to know the decision)? Are you a PKR member? You are not a Keadilan (PKR) member,” she said.

The Press conference came to an abrupt stop when she was asked about the possibility of Datuk Seri Azmin Ali contesting for the party president post against her father, who is Pakatan Harapan (PH) de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Our conversation is over,” she said, refusing to comment further.

Nurul Izzah had refused to comment on her candidacy when met at the parliament on Tuesday.

She had said that she wanted to focus on her roles as Permatang Pauh member of parliament and TVET chairman.
