BAGAN DATUK: Independent candidate for the Bagan Datuk Parliamentary seat, Ibrahim Mat Zin, better known as ‘Tok Bomoh Malaysia,’ failed to make an appearance at the nomination centre here today.

Ibrahim, who is also the Seni Silat Gayung Ghaib Malaysia Association president, was supposed to arrive at the nomination centre in Sekolah Menengah Sains Bagan Datuk (SABDA) during the form submission period between 9am and 10am.

During a press conference later, Bagan Datuk seat incumbent Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed speculation that Ibrahim's nomination was withdrawn owing to his bankrupt status.

"Ibrahim could not contest because of his bankruptcy status and as such, he could not come here to hand over his form.

"I welcomed his interest to contest here, because the more the merrier. But I have been told that he is in the list of bankrupts," Ahmad Zahid said.

Ibrahim had announced that he would be running as an independent candidate in the Bagan Datuk Parliamentary constituency.

The 68-year-old added that 26 other candidates from the Seni Silat association would also be contesting as independent candidates nationwide.

He said his deputy, Leman Kanaullah, 55, who is known as “Badang Malaysia,” would be contesting the Pangkor state seat.

Ibrahim stressed that he had not been coerced by anyone to stand in Bagan Datuk, saying that he simply wanted to serve people in the place where he was born.
