KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional’s component party MIC will contest nine parliamentary and 18 state seats in the 14th General Election.

However, the party will only name the candidate for the Buntong state seat in Perak in two days’ time.

In announcing the candidates yesterday, MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said they were chosen based on a number of factors.

“We hope local constituents and voters will give their utmost support to these candidates for the sake of our beloved country’s development and prosperity.”

The latest candidate list sees MIC staking a claim to Cameron Highlands by fielding Youth chief Datuk C. Sivaraajh.

This is despite the ongoing disagreement with MyPPP over which BN component party has the right to run for the parliamentary seat.

In the 13th General Election, the seat was won by former MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel by a wafer-thin majority of 462 votes.

Contention over the seat began after Palanivel was sacked from MIC in 2015, following a leadership tussle.

MyPPP president Tan Sri Dr M. Kayveas has remained firm in his request to contest in Cameron Highlands.
