KUALA LUMPUR: A heartwarming gesture by a Rapid Penang bus driver, affectionately dubbed 'Captain Surendran' by passengers, has captured the attention and admiration of netizens across social media platforms.

A female passenger, moved by the driver's compassion, took to Facebook to share her experience.

Ms. Cecilia, in a post on the Penang Indian Networks Facebook page on March 20, uploaded a 0.56-second video showcasing Captain Surendran's exemplary care and assistance towards a Person with Disabilities (PwD) aboard his bus.

"I want to express my appreciation to the bus driver, Mr. Surendran," she wrote alongside the video. "His commitment in delivering the best service possible deserves praise."

In the footage, Captain Surendran was seen aiding a wheelchair-bound passenger in alighting from the bus and then helping to navigate the wheelchair across the road.

The act of kindness didn't go unnoticed, with Ms. Cecilia highlighting it to inspire others.

"Attached is the video which I recorded to show just how hardworking, responsible, and professional he is," she added.

The post quickly gained traction, with netizens expressing their gratitude and admiration for Captain Surendran's selflessness.

"I thought I can only see this kind of service on Singapore buses. Well done Captain Surendran. You've set a very good example. May God bless you," commented a netizen using the profile name Yen Yen.

Pbs PL Wong echoed the sentiment, praising Captain Surendran for his kindness and compassion. "You are so special and wonderful. You are willing to spend time and make the effort for people who are in need. Salute to you, Bus Captain!"

Eric Chow expressed appreciation for the exemplary service, stating, "Thanks for giving such a wonderful service. Appreciate your kindness to our community."

Reflecting on the overwhelming response, a Facebook user, Faizal Zakaria wrote, "Congratulations and very good of you, Captain. You are a great citizen of this country. Respect."

As of March 25, the post and accompanying video have garnered more than 6,200 likes, 450 comments, and over 134,000 views.
