KUALA LUMPUR: A residential park in Bandar Mahkota Cheras, Selangor, has become an unexpected shelter for a group of foreign residents, prompting concerns within the local community.

In a setting where playgrounds are typically associated with joy and play for children, a recent viral video on X platform (formerly known as Twitter) tells a different story.

The footage captured several individuals, believed to be foreigners, transforming a public gazebo into their living space, complete with mattresses and makeshift belongings.

The disconcerting scenes escalated as these individuals extend their living area onto the playground at night, repurposing a space intended for children's enjoyment.

The video documented a confrontation between the group and local residents expressing their apprehensions about a public space turning into an impromptu settlement.

The recorder also highlighted the unsanitary conditions and the gazebo's transformation into a makeshift camp.

The discovery of broken glass bottles in the vicinity added to the gravity of the situation, posing a clear threat to the safety of children and other park visitors.

In an unexpected turn, the individuals, identified as residents from Myanmar, offered apologies during the confrontation and were seen cleaning their makeshift living space by hanging clothes on the benches provided in the playground.

As the video circulates, concerned viewers flood the comments section, urging local residents to file official reports and called on authorities to address the issue promptly.

This unforeseen use of public space not only raised questions about the living conditions of these individuals but also sparked a broader conversation about the necessity for community vigilance.

"Call the police or the local council and ask them to take action on those foreigners," commented @Semut Merah.

Social media users also call for the need of authorities to take prompt action in maintaining the safety and purpose of public recreational areas.

"Authorities, please take the necessary measures and conduct monitoring to address this issue," wrote @Indera.

"Why is it so hard for the government to take a firm stance with foreign residents," said @Harieysyam.
