KUALA LUMPUR: Parking space availability at government buildings in the city are often scarce.

Most of the time, visitors were forced to park their vehicles far away and this was worse for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and people with disabilities.

X user, Reza Razali pointed to a row of unused parking bays which were allotted for VVIPs at the Hulu Langat District and Land Office, in a viral posting, recently.

The 10 parking lots were said to be for assemblymen and members of parliament.

"I see many old people coming here and (they) had to park far away.

"Maybe they (government) can repriotise the parking lots here for those who need them more," he wrote.

The tweet garnered more than 500,000 views with the majority of the social media users supporting his call.

Another X user, @luqmanfansuri said the culture of allocating parking spaces for VVIPs must change.

"Members of parliament and assemblymen should serve the people, but this seem to be the opposite.

"This culture must change," he said.

Another X user, @HMEmi6 believed it was redundant for VVIPs to get designated parking lots as they will arrive with their own drivers.

"The drivers can just drop them at the entrance and then park somewhere else," said the X user.
