KLUANG: Two friends were killed when the motorcycle they were riding on skidded and crashed into a road sign post in Jalan Besar Kluang here early this morning.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said the victims in the 3am accident have been identified as Ahmad Firdhous Sulaiman, 31, and Nurul Syafika Atira Zakaria, 25.

Preliminary investigation, he said, showed that the victims were heading to Batu Pahat-Mersing roundabout from the Jalan Besar Kluang on the Yamaha MT-09.

"The rider of the motorcycle is believed to have lost control of the vehicle before it skidded and crashed into the road sign post," he said when contacted.

Ahmad Firdhous succumbed to severe head and bodily injuries and died on the spot during the accident. Nurul Syafika was pronounced dead when she was being treated at the Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital.

Bahrin added that both victims were unemployed and that the motorcycle belonged to their friend.

The case, he said, is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transports Act 1987 for reckless driving causing death.
