KOTA BARU: The carcass of a tiger which was found floating in Sungai Pergau, Kuala Krai yesterday, did not have any injuries on its body.

Kelantan Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) director Mohamad Hafid Rohani said physical checks by the department's rangers also showed there were no signs of gunshots or snares on the body.

He added the carcass of Panthera tigris tiger was found floating on the river by villagers from Kampung Kandek at about 3.30pm.

"The ranger team was immediately deployed to the scene to investigate the case after receiving the report.

"It was difficult to access the carcass as it was located in the Pergau river," he said in a statement.

With the help of several villagers, he said the team managed to reach the location using a boat.

He advised villagers to be cautious when going to the forest and not to own take matters into their own hands should they spot a tiger.

He also urged those with information on wildlife to contact the department's hotline at 1-800-88-5151 or e-aduan at www.wildlife.gov.my.

It was reported yesterday that a tiger carcass was found floating in the river by villagers.

The carcass was later transported to the National Wildlife Rescue Centre (NWRC) in Sungkai, Perak for post-mortem.
