SEBERANG JAYA: Grocery store owner Goh Yap Eng, 49, who appeared in a viral video of him fighting a customer, said he regrets his action.

Goh talked about the fight in an interview with a radio station, which was uploaded on the TikTok account of @bfmradio.

He said the fight between him and another man was not due to racial issues or drunkenness.

"Everyone gets drunk in his own way. For example, if I get drunk, I just sit quietly. I will go to sleep, watch television or listen to music.

"On Wednesday night, when the video went viral, I couldn't sleep until Thursday.

"On Thursday, the police took me into custody for two days until Saturday. When I was released in the afternoon, I still couldn't sleep.

"If I had a choice, I would have avoided the fight."

Goh, who inherited his father's business, said: "I want to advise those who learn taekwondo or kung fu: don't provoke fights.

"That's not the action of someone who learns martial arts.

"I hope there won't be racial issues, Malaysia should be harmonious. I hope Malaysians stay united.

"Don't fight. It's not worth it."

On June 5, a video of a fight between Goh and his customer went viral, causing an uproar on social media.

In the video, a customer slammed his helmet on the cashier's counter and challenged Goh to a fight.

Police detained both men for two days and they were released on June 8.

Penang police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad said both of them had apologised to each other and withdrawn their police reports.

A picture of them shaking hands and smiling has gone viral.
