GEORGE TOWN: A family of seven faced some tense moments when their house near Taman Desa Penaga, Jelutong, was razed by fire this morning.

The Fire and Rescue Department was alerted to the incident at about 9:02am.

Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations commander A'azelan Hassan said no lives were lost, but two people sustained minor injuries, including a 39-year-old woman with high blood pressure and her 54-year-old brother who sustained minor injuries.

"Both did not suffer from serious injuries and were not taken to the hospital. They are in stable condition," he said.

A'azelan said they received a distress call at about 9:02am and rushed to the scene. About 90 per cent of the house was razed.

"Also gutted were a Perodua Axia, a Proton Wira, and a Yamaha Ego motorcycle," he added.

He said the operation was assisted by 19 firefighters from nearby stations, and the fire was completely put out by 10:12am.

"We conducted overhaul work to ensure no dangerous elements remained. The operation was then handed over to the fire investigation officer (FIO) for further action," he said.
